01 — Brief and solution

Warm wood, boldly veined stone and concealed light — one language across two floors.

Brief

Design the interior of a two-storey townhouse so that the ground floor works as a single shared space while the upper floor stays private: a master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and separate rooms for the children, each with its own character.

Solution

The ground floor is a kitchen-living room with an island in boldly veined stone, a dining table by the window and a TV wall of oak panels with a backlit insert of textured stone. A staircase with timber treads and concealed lighting leads upstairs to the master bedroom, two children’s rooms and the bathrooms.

The project was delivered as a full set of working drawings: survey plans of both floors, demolition and new partitions, dimensioned furniture layouts, floor and ceiling plans, lighting, sockets and plumbing, wall elevations and drawings for the built-in furniture. The album runs to 51 sheets.

The palette rests on three materials: oak panels, light walls and boldly veined stone, which reappears on the kitchen island and the bathroom vanity tops. The children’s rooms take a different direction: the girl’s room is in powder pink, with an upholstered headboard and a desk by the window; the teenager’s room is in graphite, with neon signs and shelving above the desk.

02 — Key decisions

Five decisions the house is built on

01Oak-and-stone TV wall

EGGER Oak Kasella panels and a backlit insert of textured stone form the main accent of the living room.

02An island instead of a wall

A stone-topped island separates the kitchen from the living room, so you cook facing the family and the window.

03A staircase with light

Timber treads, a solid balustrade and concealed lighting: the staircase reads as a piece of furniture rather than a structure.

04Three different bedrooms

A master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and an armchair by the full-height window, a pink girl’s room and a graphite teenager’s room.

05Stone bathrooms

Stone vanity tops with countertop basins, warm-toned tiles and timber panels.
